Women of Courage, Character, and Commitment

ACTRESS TO CELEBRATE THREE WOMEN OF COURAGE, CHARACTER, AND COMMITMENT IN ONE-WOMAN SHOW MARCH 7

Gretchen Trapp, an actress who lives in Bethlehem, will be presenting her one-woman show "Women of Courage, Character and Commitment", highlighting the lives of Sojourner Truth, Louisa May Alcott, and Clara Schumann, on Saturday, March 7, at 1:00 pm at the Minor Memorial Library in Roxbury. The program is free and open to the public.

Ms Trapp has researched and written a dramatic presentation for Women’s History Month entitled “Women of Courage, Character, and Commitment,” featuring abolitionist Sojourner Truth, writer Louisa May Alcott, and composer Clara Schumann. These three women are a source of wonder and inspiration to people everywhere. Ms Trapp will bring them to life for contemporary audiences, eliciting empathy for the struggles of each woman.

Each character comes to life through Ms Trapp’s fluid gestures and expressions as she speaks with the highly individualized voice of each woman, from the freed slave Sojourner Truth, six feet tall and with a commanding deep voice, to Louisa May Alcott facing the horrors of the Civil War wounded, to pianist and composer Clara Schumann whose talents helped her endure her husband’s mental illness and provide for her seven children. Without props or costumes, Gretchen Trapp moves the audience into the past and into the trials and challenges each woman faced.

The library is handicapped-accessible. Call the library at 860-350-2181 or visit the website at www.minormemoriallibrary.org for information and directions.
