Haute History: A Vintage Inspired Fashion Show offers the perfect Mother’s Day weekend outing on May 9

HARTFORD, Conn. – Seeking ideas from the past to make your current fashion statement? Want to learn how clothing design over the past century has informed today’s trends? The Connecticut Historical Society’s (CHS) Haute History: A Vintage-Inspired Fashion Show will help you and the special women in your family boost your style savvy over Mother’s Day weekend.

An 11 a.m. runway show and multi-media event on Saturday May 9 at CHS, 1 Elizabeth Street, Hartford, will feature costumes from the 1910s through 1970s that serve as inspiration for vintage-inspired runway looks to be provided by Simon’s Clinton Crossing Premium Outlets.

Celebrity emcee for the event is Judy Goss, TV personality; news correspondent, lifestyle expert and host of the radio show What Women Want on L.A. Talk Radio. Her organization, Over 40 Females®, a live and online networking community that connects, engages and inspires women over the age of 40, is a sponsor of the event. Adding to Goss’ commentary on the vintage-inspired runway styles, CHS experts will discuss how fashion has evolved over the 20th century.

As images of costumes from the CHS collection are projected on the wall behind the runway stage, models wearing designs from Simon’s Clinton Crossing Premium Outlets merchants including Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th, Tommy Hilfiger, Dooney & Bourke, Gap Factory Store and Nine West will demonstrate how to add vintage touches to any wardrobe.

“At last year’s Katherine Hepburn inspired fashion show, guests wanted to see more of CHS’s beautiful historical costumes,” said Jenny Steadman, CHS adult programs manager. “For the Haute History show we're giving historical fashion fans what they’ve asked for in a pop-up exhibit that will feature more inspired designs from the 1910s through the 1970’s.” Before and after the show, visitors can take in the pop-up exhibit, enjoy light refreshments and tour the CHS museum galleries.

The Connecticut Historical Society’s Haute History: A Vintage Inspired Fashion Show is supported in part by the Greater Hartford Arts Council’s United Arts Campaign. Tickets are $20 for CHS and Let’s Go Arts! Members and $25 for non-members, and can be purchased online at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/1260891

Event Sponsors are Simon Clinton Crossing Premium Outlets, the Greater Hartford Arts Council and Over 40 Females.
