In honor of Memorial Day and in appreciation for all of the Veterans they’ve cared for, Regional Hospice and Home Care presented one of their Veteran volunteers, Gary Boulet of Danbury, with an appreciation plaque. Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton helped present the certificate.
“Being a fellow service member, I am honored to be here today with Gary. He represents the spirit of giving that exists here in Danbury,” said Boughton. “This place runs on angels, and Gary is one of many here.”
Boulet is a volunteer at Regional Hospice and Home Care’s Center for Comfort Care & Healing and has logged more than 150 hours of service in the three and a half months since the center began accepting patients. He said he was inspired to volunteer for Regional Hospice and Home Care by the memory of his mother, who worked as a nurse’s aide. “I wanted to pattern my life after her,” he said.
“It’s time I give back to the community,” he continued. “They’ve given me a lot.”
“Gary is a perfect example of an individual who gives tirelessly to our hospice center,” said Cynthia E. Roy, CEO and president of Regional Hospice and Home Care. “It’s important to acknowledge all Veterans like him and their service to our country.”
Regional Hospice and Home Care is looking for more Veterans to volunteer for their We Honor Veterans program, which will match Veteran volunteers with Veterans in the care of the hospice.
