Danbury Animal Welfare Society to Host its Annual Walk-for-Animals Fundraiser

DAWS 26th Annual Walk-for-Animals Fundraiser

September 27, 2015

Danbury Animal Welfare Society will host its annual Walk-for-Animals Fundraiser on Sunday, September 27.

Individuals, families, dogs, and animal lovers are invited to come and have fun while raising money to help DAWS continue its mission to rescue and rehome dogs and cats. Attendees can visit the vendor booths with animal-related products and services, purchase raffle tickets to win great prizes, visit our cats at the Feline Fan House, try their dog’s skill on an agility course, participate in fun doggie games, and enjoy refreshments from the food vendors all while being entertained by a DJ.

The Walk-for-Animals is one of two fundraising anchor-events which ensure the ongoing rescue and rehoming of hundreds of dogs and cats each year.  Critical to the success of the event is the recruitment of walkers who set up fundraising pages and obtain donations to support their walk.  DAWS Board President, John Piper, said:  “We use a fundraising model just like any other charity walk where individuals and teams raise money.  Over the years, we’ve gotten more sophisticated.  Each individual walker or team can set up their own walk page and easily connect with people they know to inform them of the walk and to ask for their support.”

Long-time DAWS Volunteer, and veteran Walk-for-Animals participant, Kristen Backus, said, “Every step we take is personal.  We walk because we love animals and because we want to see each one find a loving, forever-home.  My family and friends support me in the effort to ensure a ‘happy-tail’ for every dog and cat.”

Walkers are welcome with and without dogs.  General Admission to participate is $25 per individual/family.  Register and set up fundraising pages at www.daws.org/walk.  Registration is also available the day of the event.

The event will take place rain or shine. Dogs are welcome as long as they enjoy being around other dogs and children. For safety-sake, all dogs must be leashed.
