Dennis R. Adler, 71, of Sandy Hook has died

Dennis R. Adler, 71, of Sandy Hook, CT, husband of Nada (Ashkenas) Adler, died on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Adler was born in Brooklyn, NY, January 16, 1945, a son of the late Frederick and Edith (Slanger) Adler.

In 1954, at the age of 9, Mr. Adler relocated to Danbury from Brooklyn, NY with his family where his parents established Adler’s Dress Shop and Dennis attended local schools and graduated from Danbury High School with the Class of 1963. He then attended the University of Bridgeport.

Mr. Adler was president of the Gold Leaf Insurance Agency of Danbury and had been employed as an insurance agent with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.

He served with the U.S. Army National Guard, enjoyed golf, trains, cars, photography and music.

Dennis was a member of Congregation B’Nai Israel of Danbury and served as chairman of their Children of Israel Cemetery.

In addition to his wife of forty five years, Mr. Adler is survived by a son, Fred Adler and his wife, Fernanda of Riverside, CT; a daughter Leah Adler and her partner, Stu Epstein of Cromwell, CT and a brother, Leonard Adler of Pompano Beach, FL.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 11 a.m. in Congregation B’Nai Israel, 193 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury with Rabbi Nelly Altenburger officiating.

Interment will follow in the Children of Israel Cemetery, Miry Brook Rd., Danbury.

A Period of Mourning and Minyan will be announced.

Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
