Pamela Danneman of Newtown is Pomperaug Woods Connecticut Senior Juried Art Show Award Recipient

Pomperaug Woods retirement community is pleased to announce the 9th Annual Connecticut Senior Juried Art Show’s award recipients. First, second, third and honorable mention awards are given in four categories: Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, and Photography. Additionally, a “Best in Show” award is given to the artist who best demonstrates “the feeling of beauty and life in his/her artwork.”

Priscilla Watson, this year’s winner of the Tommie Davis Award, or “Best in Show,” for her acrylic painting Spring Snow, said that her recognition was very unexpected.

“I’m not used to being in the limelight,” said Watson. “My piece was a little bit off the beaten track and I thought it wasn’t going to happen, but it’ll be fun to enter. Never would I have dreamed of getting the top award, and I’m very happy the judges saw what I see in it.”

Kevin Moshier, executive director at Pomperaug Woods, said the community is proud of the art show’s continued growth; they received 223 entries from 144 seniors from 53 Connecticut towns this year.

“I have to hand it to the judges, because it’s not an easy task,” said Moshier. “Every piece we received was beautiful. The public is in for a treat.”

The art show is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on September 24 and 25 at Pomperaug Woods, located at 80 Heritage Road in Southbury. The event is free and open to the public.
