Mrs. Kangos was born in Queens, New York, May 30, 1931, a daughter of George and Edna (Sterloff) Nickolaus. She resided with her family in the Washington Heights section of New York. She attended NY schools, George Washington High School and graduated from the Katharine Gibbs School of New York City.
Mrs. Kangos was a former private secretary with the Oil American Petroleum Institute of New York prior to her marriage and the birth of their three children.
An area resident for the past five months coming from Jackson, NJ, she also resided in Holmdel, NJ.
She was a member of the Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church of Holmdel, NJ.
Mrs. Kangos enjoyed sports and was a champion bowler, golfer and bocce player.
She was a former volunteer at the Bayshore Community Hospital and later became a secretary to the director of volunteer services.
She will be sorely missed.
In addition to her husband Nicholas of sixty three years, Mrs. Kangos is survived by two sons, Jon J. Kangos and his wife Christine of Atlantic Highlands, NJ and George S. Kangos and his wife Rebecca of No. Andover, MA formerly of Ridgefield, CT; and a daughter, Caryn K. Flannery and her husband Frederick Jr. of Danbury; a brother, Anthony Nickolaus of Florence, Oregon; a sister, Anna Haikalis of Chevy Chase, MD; five grandchildren, Timothy and wife Samantha, Steven, Nicole, Jennifer and Frederick III; a sister in law Katie Nickolaus and several nieces and nephews.
The Rite of Burial will take place on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. in the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Clapboard Ridge Rd., Danbury.
Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
The family will receive friends at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Memorial donations can be made to Parkinson Research Foundation or the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Danbury.
