Eversource update, 4:45 Monday, Oct 30.
Newtown now has approximately 1500 reported power outages and 27 roads that are totally or partially blocked by downed wires or trees. According to the Eversource spokesperson, the additional outages are caused by wind gusts this morning and afternoon and the process of clearing wires and trees. The outages and blocked roads are in areas throughout the town.
Eversource crews and public works crews are on site in many locations, performing damage assessments and planning recovery. These crews will continue to work through the night. The first order of business is to Make Safe, the highest priority being to address all dangerous conditions. Restoration work follows the Make Safe process. No specific restoration times have been provided by EverSource. Please proceed safely in your travels throughout the town and general area.
