Clay Date Potters Exhibit at C.H. Booth Library in January

Karen Pinto, Ros Liljengren, Roberta Ahuja and Seowoon Oh, the four potters who were known as the popular Clay Date Potters at HealingNewtown, are the focus of an exhibit of their work at the CH Booth Library, Main Street, Newtown. Located in the showcase outside the Children’s library, the exhibit, a collaboration between the library and the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission, will be on display through January during regular hours.

All four are members of Connecticut Clay Artists, (http://connecticutclayartists.org/index.php) an organization of professional clay artists who come together for creative, intellectual and supportive work and to exhibit their work collectively.

All residents of Newtown, two, Karen Pinto and Ros Liljengren, received their degrees in pottery from Southern Connecticut State University. Ros has taught in the Stamford Public Schools, at the Stamford Nature Center and currently teaches in Westport. Currently, her work has been inspired by nature. Karen has been concentrating her work on sea life inspired by a trip to a nature sanctuary.

Seowoon Oh was born in South Korea and has a BFA and MFA in ceramic art from Hongik University, Seoul. She has also studied in Wales and has been concentrating on the function and decorative hand built ceramics.

A native if Brazil, Roberta Ahuja, is a self taught potter. She throws pots and then paints them, establishing her interest in the decorative arts. Her range of work is extensive, from Mailoica to Terra cotta.
