Danbury, CT – Trailer Box Project will introduce a new exhibition, “Traces,” with an opening reception at 5:00pm on Saturday, October 17th. The new show will feature individual works by artists Natasha Karpinskaia and Janice Mauro, as well as a collaborative piece created by the artists.
“Natasha and Janice approached us with an incredible concept for a collaborative exhibition,” says Jim Felice, founder of Trailer Box Project. “Using the Trailer Box itself as inspiration, ‘Traces’ sets out to explore the lives of manufactured objects, and what happens to them when they have been left to decay. Just as we have given an abandoned vintage Castro Convertible trailer a new life as an art gallery, the two artists in this exhibit have created works that have the energy of objects lost in time and recently rediscovered.”
Abstract Artist Natasha Karpinskaia created a series of monotypes for the exhibition that capture the patina of time. “We leave traces wherever we go, on whatever we touch, so that others who come after us can trace our experiences,” she explains. Karpinskaia studied linguistics at the University of Linguistics in Moscow before continuing her education in art history at the St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts. Currently a full time artist, Karpinskaia’s works in various media came as a logical extension of her studies as an art historian; analyzing works of art fanned a desire to participate in the process of creating.
Sculptor Janice Mauro’s conceptual works of clay and metal evoke ancient architectural relics. Mauro approached her somber, monochromatic sculptures as pieces of aging machines that have become art artifacts with reverence to what they once were. An award-winning sculptor and Fellow Member of the National Sculpture Society, Mauro has designed, carved and modeled various puppets for New York Broadway productions such as The Lion King and Alice in Wonderland. Mauro currently teaches figurative sculpture at Silvermine School of Art in New Canaan, CT and The Art School at Old Church, Demarest, New Jersey.
