Savings Bank of Danbury is collaborating with Western Connecticut State University, Danbury, Conn., in developing the first of its kind, endowed education internship. The internship will be called the Savings Bank of Danbury Endowed Cooperative Education Internship Fund at Western Connecticut State University.
The internship program is being created with a donation from Savings Bank of Danbury to enable students who face financial difficulties to participate in an internship in order to enhance their degree requirements with practical experience.
Any full- or part-time matriculated undergraduate who meets the qualifications of the internship may be eligible.
“Many students at Western face more than academic challenges during their college years. Most have to balance school, work and family, often making significant sacrifices to complete their degree. Students often forgo the educational experience of an unpaid internship because of financial pressures. These internships offer real life work experience, which is both beneficial in the educational process and certainly gives the student a leg up when applying for their first job out of college,” said Kathleen Romagnano, President and CEO.
“Our students have benefited for years from the great support of the Savings Bank of Danbury, and this donation emphasizes the generosity of the Board of Directors and management of the bank,” Clark said. “The internship fund will have important and lasting effect on students. It will allow them to make the most of their education at WCSU and it will help them thrive when they graduate. The bank’s gift leverages every opportunity that the university offers our students.”
