Will GE Remain in Connecticut?

Will General Electric move their headquarters out of Connecticut?

Some of our readers have been speculating on our Facebook Page:

GE will probably leave the State along with many other Companies and individuals.

Spending is going up dramatically, taxes will follow suit, and nobody will be able to afford to live here. Thanks brilliant politicians!

The corporation, located in Fairfield, has state residents on pins and needles as they await an announcement from the GE regarding their future headquarter location. Losing GE (NYSE: GE) would have big financial ramifications for the state. The corporation reported an annual revenue of 148.94 Billion in 2014. In 2015, FORTUNE named them as one of the "World’s Most Admired Companies".

On December 20, The Hartford Courant, quoted a spokesman for GE who said the corporation "expects to make a decision in January.''

The Courant said, “GE has been weighing a move out of Connecticut since the summer, when lawmakers passed a budget that included $1.2 billion in tax increases despite protests from some of the state's biggest corporations.”

In late August, Governor Malloy stated during a Press Conference  a willingness to work with the corporation and said that he wanted General Electric to remain in Connecticut. “I have had some discussions with GE. They’re going through a process with respect to where their headquarters may be. That’s a decision for them to make," said Malloy. He added, "I stand ready to work with them on issues of concerns and remain competitive with other states."

Was Connecticut competitive enough? We'll find out soon.
