Grease Sing-along: Two Shows Only at Newtown's Edmond Town Hall Theater on May 22

Fans of musicals know how hard it is to watch their favorite shows and not burst into song.  Well, don’t hold back, because the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission will present two special Grease Sing-along screenings on Sunday, May 22 at 4:00 PM, and 7:00 PM at Newtown's Edmond Town Hall Theater, 45 Main Street.   Tickets are $2.00, available at the box office prior to the shows.

Break out those pink or leather jackets, grease up those quiffs, tease that hair, and BE a part of the cast while singing (and dancing) to the lyrics on the screen.

"Grease is a favorite of ours,” say Bob and Marie Schlump, owners of Café Xpresso and proud sponsors of the film, "because it was filmed way back in the happy, innocent summer of 1977.  It boasts what all successful musicals have: likable stars, a simple but not trivial plot, and a lot of enjoyable music.”

Now nearing it’s 40th anniversary, the film is one of those few Broadway musical adaptations that has enjoyed enormous success.  In fact, it was the top box office winner against other movies released in 1978, including Superman and National Lampoon’s Animal House.  Though it garnered only one Oscar nomination, for “Hopelessly Devoted to You” written especially for the film, it was honored with several Golden Globe nominations, and won two Peoples Choice Awards for Favorite Musical and Favorite Overall Motion Picture.

Classic films will resume in the fall with The African Queen on September 1, Rear Window on September 29, a double feature with Dracula and Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein on October 30, and White Christmas on December 18.
