October Events at EverWonder Children's Museum in Newtown

Story Lab for Young Explorers meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 am to 11:00 am. This 30 minute program of STEM themed stories, activities, and crafts takes place in the EverWonder classroom. Parents must stay with their children during the program. Program is free with museum admission.

Tuesday, October 4, 2016 to Sunday, October 30, 2016 Tuesdays – Saturdays: 10:00 am to 5:00 pm / Sundays: 11:00 am to 5:00 pm 

New Art Labs: Corn Coloring and Pattern Pumpkins Starting on Tuesday, October 4th, come check out EverWonder’s new art labs, Corn Coloring and Pattern Pumpkins.

  • In Corn Coloring, children will color and solve a math puzzle. After completing the puzzle, they will cut out the puzzle out and hang it on a wall of corn stalks.
  • In Pattern Pumpkins, children will create their own unique pumpkin artwork by dividing a picture of a pumpkin into multiple parts and decorating each section a different pattern. 

Wednesday, October 5, 2016 10:00 am to 5:00 pm - Science Lab: Science of Fall Colors Children will learn about the autumn leaf color phenomenon in this science lab. Children will investigate the different colors that leaves change to and learn about the chemical process that leaves undergo when they change colors.

Monday, October 10, 2016 10:00 am to 5:00 pm -Columbus Day Come sail away with us on Columbus Day. On Monday, October 10th, we are making boats out of egg cartons, tin foil, play dough and straws. 

Wednesday, October 12, 2016 10:00 am to 5:00 pm - Science Lab: Leaf Breathing Observations Ever wonder how leaves breathe? Children will place leaves into bowls of water and learn about the process of photosynthesis and transpiration. Children will watch bubbles form around the leaves and rise up in the bowl as the leaves breathe.

Wednesday, October 19, 2016 10:00 am to 5:00 pm - Art Lab: Leaf Rubbings Children will use various types of leaves and crayons to create rubbings. While making the leaf rubbings, children will learn about the different parts of a leaf.

Wednesday, October 26, 2016 10:00 am to 5:00 pm - Science Lab: Trees through the Seasons Children will use various types of media to create a piece of art that represents what trees look like in each season.

Sunday, October 30, 2016 11:00 am to 5:00 pm- Halloween Bash Come celebrate Halloween a day early at the museum! Join EverWonder for the ultimate spooky bash. Throughout the day, there will be temporary tattoos, face painting, Candy Corn Estimate Game, and a gift basket raffle. From 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, there will be a Mad Science Demo and at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm, there will be storytelling and a spookeley craft. While supplies last, EverWonder will also be featuring pumpkin painting, eat a bug, and treat bag decoration. Upon exiting the Halloween Bash, you will be given a bag of popcorn and candy.

Museums hours are Tuesday – Saturday 10:00 am -5:00 pm and Sunday 11:00 am – 5:00 pm. The museum is located at 31 Pecks Lane Newtown, CT 06470. Regular admission is $7.00 for visitors over 1 year of age. Memberships and gift certificates are available for purchase.

EverWonder is open Tuesday- Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission is $7.00 per person, and children under the age of 1 years old are free. Museum members are free. Parking at the museum is also free.
