Newtown Cafe Goes to the Dogs on August 26

As summer begins winding down, people and their pooches are gearing up to celebrate National Dog Day, on Saturday August 26 and Café Xpresso is marking the occasion by hosting Yappy Hour that afternoon from 2 to 4 pm on their patio.

Dog lovers are invited to pack up and dress up their pooches and bring them to the event.  There will be doggie treats and pet contests including Best Kisses and Best Dressed.  Winners of contests will even receive prizes.

Café Xpresso is partnering with Your Healthy Pet, located on Church Hill Road, next to Newtown Hardware and The Exceptional Pet Dog Training, located on Simms Lane, to who will also be participating in the event.

National Dog Day was established in 2004 as a day to bring attention to the number of dogs that need to be adopted and rescued and celebrates all dogs, mixed breed and pure.

"Millions of dogs are killed each year because they're simply unwanted,” says Bob Schlump, owner of Café Xpresso.  He and his wife are avid dog lovers and they wanted to do something to recognize a day that focuses on the celebration of dogs.  “All a dog wants is to love you and be loved by you,” he says.  “Dogs are amazing, courageous, sensitive and responsive creatures that deserve love and respect.” The Schlumps’ rescued Poodle, Boli, will be attending the event.
