HARTFORD- State Rep. Mitch Bolinsky (R-106, Newtown) attended the Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter Legislative Breakfast today at the State Capitol.
At the event, Rep. Bolinsky listened to emotional personal stories from Alzheimer’s caregivers about their struggles and challenges caring for those with Alzheimer’s disease.
Bolinsky addressed the Alzheimer's caregivers and talked about how Governor Malloy's budget proposal is short-sighted when it comes to those living with Alzheimer's disease. Caregivers deserve better and shouldn't be forced from their homes to receive needed care that can be delivered more cost-effectively in the home.
“Like you, I have many concerns about this budget and, having elderly parents living in their home of 30-years despite my father being an Alzheimer's patient, I want to assure you that, I am working closely with my colleagues to address as many of these critical local, regional and state issues, along with the effects of cuts to senior programs like the Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders and Alzheimer's Respite Care programs, in addition to dozens of other critical, underfunded but needed programs,” said Bolinsky, who is the ranking member of the legislature’s Aging committee.
