First Lady Michelle Obama & Gov. Malloy to Discuss Veteran Homelessness on Monday

On Monday afternoon, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will join First Lady Michelle Obama and community leaders from across the country at the White House's Veterans Homelessness Summit, where he will discuss Connecticut's successful efforts to eliminate homelessness among veterans.  Earlier this year, the federal government certified that Connecticut’s recently increased housing efforts have effectively eliminated homelessness among veterans, meaning that the state has the capacity and sustainable systems in place to quickly find and connect a veteran who becomes homeless to the assistance needed for him or her to achieve stable, permanent housing.  Connecticut is only one of three states in the nation to achieve this goal.

In 2011, First Lady Obama and Dr. Jill Biden came together to launch Joining Forces, a nationwide initiative calling on all Americans to rally around servicemembers, veterans, and their families and support them through wellness, education, and employment opportunities.  To mark five years of progress, the First Lady and Dr. Biden are celebrating the individuals who have supported our military community at the White House.
