Absentee Ballots Available for Newtown Referendum Vote

Absentee Ballots Now Available for Newtown Referendum on Tuesday, April 25 from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 11 Queen Street, Newtown Middle School Gymnasium.

Town Clerk Debbie Aurelia Halstead announces that Absentee ballots will be available for the Referendum during our office hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Town Clerk’s office will have Special Absentee Voting Hours on Saturday, April 22nd from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Pursuant to Conn. General Statutes Sec. 7-6, any person who is a registered voter in the Town of Newtown or who is a U.S. citizen assessed for at least $1,000 for Real Estate or Motor Vehicles on the 2016 Grand List for the Town of Newtown is qualified to vote at the Referendum.

Any qualified person who meets any of the following criteria may vote by absentee ballot:

1) active service in the Armed Forces

2) absence from the Town during all the hours of voting

3) illness

4) physical disability

5) religious tenets which forbid secular activity on the day of the Referendum  

6) duties as a Referendum official at a polling place other than your own during all hours of voting.

Less than 3 Weeks Notice for Referendum Absentee Ballot Application Absentee ballots can be returned in person to the office of the Town Clerk by 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 24th or by mail or designee before the closing of the polls on Referendum day, i.e. 8 p.m., April 25, 2017.

The Referendum will be held on Tuesday, April 25th, 2017 from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 11 Queen Street, Newtown Middle School Gymnasium.

Absentee ballots will be counted at the Newtown Middle School at 4:00 p.m. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact Town Clerk’s Office at 270-4210.
