Newtown Police locate lost hiker in Paugussett State Forest

This past Saturday evening, February 18, Newtown Police Officers Schoen and Harold responded to the state boat launch for the report of a lost hiker in the Paugussett State Forest.

Police say the hiker, an elderly male, had no idea where he was and information he provided to police was inaccurate.

"Officers Schoen and Harold spent over two hours in the woods (in snowy and icy conditions) locating the male and walking him safely out of the woods," Newtown Police report. "Officer Lorancaitis assisted by responding to the police department to obtain and disseminate GPS locations that aided officers on scene," they add.

Sandy Hook Fire, Newtown Hook and Ladder, and Newtown Ambulance also responded to the scene and assisted.

Thanks to all of the local law enforcement for responding to the scene! Job well done!
