This is a very important campaign launch for the "Help is on its Way" program at Broken Promises. There are 7,500 families in the Fairfield County area that are in need of our help, many of whom will benefit by the assistance of our program. Struggling single parents that do not receive Government assistance must be helped in order to succeed and to prosper.
These people fall through the cracks in government aid and left to their own devices with much support and many without the family support needed to make it. Most importantly, our program is designed to put their children on the right track with education and assistance so they and future generations can be successful.
The nonprofit’s Founder and Executive Director, Richard Spangenberg, spoke to their mission and the struggles of single parent families that are working hard but not able to have a chance at the American dream, and introduced Dr. Ingi Soliman, the Chairman of Broken Promises’ Parenting and Child Development Advisory Group. She illustrated the importance for a support village that all single parents need. Broken Promises’ online resource center is being designed to provide that through easily accessible parenting tools, developmental guidelines, and a database of professionals and resources that they can turn to for help. In addition, the group will initiate research on issues unique to single parent households. Carla Craigle, a child support expert, relived her personal experiences as a single mom bringing a sense of reality of what it is like to be a struggling single parent.
The evening featured fine art, music, wonderful food, excellent wine and lollipop gifts for donations. It was a good time, for a great cause. The Host Committee included State Representative Mike Bocchino, State Representative Fred Camillo, State Representative Livvy Floren, Selectman Drew Marzullo, Selectman John Toner, First Selectman Peter J. Tesei, Mary Lee Kiernan, Edward Dadakis, Joy Rendahl, Heather Lowthert, Lauren Rabin, Kevin P. O’Shea and Stacy & Ralph Roe.
Proceeds from the campaign will also provide gift card financial support to cover a family’s basic needs including clothing, food, pharmaceuticals and even child care. Broken Promises has identified over 7,500 families living in Fairfield county in need of support and will be hosting more fundraising events in order to provide the opportunity and hope needed to support struggling single parent families and their children.
Broken Promises Foundation, Inc. (Broken Promises) mission, a tax deductible 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization based in Westport CT, is to help struggling single-parent families and their children not receiving government assistance by providing financial support and educational opportunities, raise national awareness of the challenges they face, and to effect positive change.
Broken Promises maintains a number of advisory groups to support, evaluate and provide research and input on how best to implement its mission as well as content for their single-parent family support center. Their advisory groups provide an open dialogue between professionals in the family health, parenting, education, legal and social support industries with government agencies and the private sector.
