Winter Coat Drive at the Maritime Aquarium

Help those who have less – and save some money on admission – by supporting a coat drive Nov. 5 and 6 at The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk.

During the Aquarium’s “Coat Drive Weekend,” donate a new or gently used winter coat, hat or gloves and receive $5 off the regular child’s admission price of $15.95. Donate a second item for $5 off a second child’s admission.

The coat drive is part of The Maritime Aquarium’s “Closer to Our Community” initiative, which engages the popular family attraction (and its visitors) in ways that benefit the local community.

Donated clothing will go to the Open Door Shelter of Norwalk, an organization whose mission is to address the causes and complexities of the homeless and working poor by providing shelter, food, clothing, subsidized housing, education, employment and other services, creating a path toward independence and success. The Aquarium’s next “Closer to Our Community” weekend will be a food drive Dec. 10 & 11 to benefit Person-to-Person in Norwalk. Donate a non-perishable food item to receive $5 off a child’s admission.

The Maritime Aquarium is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to educate visitors about – and to create stewards for – Long Island Sound. It accomplishes this by allowing visitors to get close to more than 250 species native to the Sound and its watershed, including sharks, seals, sea turtles, river otters, jellyfish and other animals. One of the top places for family fun in Connecticut, the Aquarium also features hands-on educational programs and displays, public study cruises out onto the Sound, and Connecticut's largest IMAX® movie theater, with a screen that's six stories high. TripAdvisor.com reviewers rate The Maritime Aquarium among the Top 25 aquariums in the U.S. and No. 1 in New England.
