The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum’s 2014 Gala to celebrate opening night with NY Times Bestselling Author Steve Berry as keynote speaker

New York Times (and #1 internationally bestselling) author Steve Berry will keynote the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum's 2014 black-tie Opening Night Gala and exhibition preview on October 18, 2014 at 7 p.m. The event will take place at the Mansion located at 295 West Avenue, Norwalk. Berry comes to the gala through his History Matters foundation and 100 percent of the proceeds from his appearance will go toward fundraising for the Mansion.

During the event entitled, Mystery at Elm Park: The Mansion's Pen and Inkwell Gala, co-chaired by Michael DiScala and Joseph Passero, guests will have the opportunity to meet Berry and hear about his latest novel, The Lincoln Myth. Berry and his wife, Elizabeth, are the creators of the History Matters foundation dedicated to historic preservation. Trustee and Gala co-Chair Joe Passero said, "This is an exciting evening where our generous supporters and people from all across the region can come together to celebrate history, the arts, and a National Historic Landmark that is one of Connecticut's most vibrant and treasured destinations."

The Mansion has launched a prize-winning Young Writers' Competition among students from area schools and Berry will judge the finalists and be on hand to meet the contestants when it culminates with the awards presentation at 6 p.m. the night of the Gala. Trustee and Gala co-Chair Michael DiScala said, "The Gala promises to offer an evening of great entertainment; it will also be a unique opportunity to support education and our nation's history, while surrounded by the beauty and splendor of this iconic mansion."

Guests will also be invited to preview the Mansion's new exhibit, Hidden Treasures: Artifacts from the LMMM Collection. Rarely seen artifacts and exquisite decorative arts objects from the Lockwood and Mathews families will be on view, giving visitors a glimpse into the personal lives and styles of the Mansion's former occupants. The exhibit will include a magnificent silver inkwell with cherubs designed by Tiffany & Co., among other rare artifacts.

The Museum's Gala is sponsored by M.F. DiScala & Company, Inc., Klaff's, Mimi and David Findlay Jr., People's United Bank, and media sponsor Connecticut Cottages and Gardens. All Gala marketing materials have been designed by TFI Envision, Inc.

The black-tie evening includes cocktails, a silent auction, and dinner catered by Michael Gilmartin of Outdoor Cookers. Gala tickets are $200 for Rotunda seats and $150 for the Adjoining Room.
