Fine Jewelry, African Safari, Designer Bags and More up for Auction on Saturday, May 30th at ASAP’s Celebration of Young Writers Event

This year’s 10th Anniversary of the Celebration of Young Writers will be held at The Gunnery in Washington on Saturday, May 30th. Passed hors d'oeuvres, bellinis and fine wine will be served from 5-6:45pm during the silent auction. 170 items will be up for bid  including  a week stay in Martha’s Vineyard, rolex watches, Yankees and Mets tickets, fine art, wine, chocolates, Louis Vuitton purses, adorable children’s items, beautiful home goods, and even treats for your pampered pooch. Online bidding will begin on Friday, May 22nd at 12pm and be open until Friday, May 29th at 12pm.  Bidding will continue at the event on Saturday, May 30th from 5-6:45pm. Maximum bids may be placed during the online auction and will be honored by proxy during the event on Saturday, May 30th. ASAP is excited about the new venue in The Gunnery’s beautiful dining hall and that Jack Gilpin will host. At 7pm John Marshall, beloved drumming teacher and professional musician, and Michael Moschen, a MacArthur Genius Award recipient and world-renowned visionary performing artist, will present to the audience. The live auction features a South Africa Six Night Photo Safari for Two and a Classic Country Barbecue pig roast, with all the fixin’s, wine, and a live band for forty guests. Celebrity readers Paul Doherty, Jack Gilpin, Ellen McCourt, Malachy McCourt, and Rose Styron will read 12 exceptional pieces chosen from over 300 submissions from students in over forty Western Connecticut schools.  

The evening will close with a presentation of this year’s recipient of the Frank McCourt Prize for Excellence in Teaching, Mr. Bill Bucklin. The goal of the award is to recognize teachers who have inspired students to become enthusiastic learners by devising imaginative assignments and techniques. Mr. Bucklin taught for forty years at Litchfield High School before moving over to The Forman School this Fall.

Tickets are $75 for General Admission, $125 for Reserved Seating, $500 for Silver Patron tickets, $1000 for Golden Patron tickets, and $5,000 for sponsors.
