Theatre Artists Workshop Kicks of 33rd Season!

THEATRE ARTISTS WORKSHOP PRESENTS “TRUE STORIES AND OTHER TALES OF TRANSFORMATION”

Theatre Artists Workshop begins its 33rd season with a twist. Produced by Vanessa David, True Tales and Other Stories of Transformation showcases the work of our playwrights and performers as well as true stories told in the Moth format made famous by NPR. Bringing stories to the stage is what TAW does, and audiences will enjoy this new addition to the TAW tradition.

Rowayton resident Mary Jane Schaefer’s Roots is a story of enduring love, roses, and renewal. It’s almost a fairy tale, except it’s all true.

Weightless: A Movement Monologue created by Susan Jacobson (Westport) shows a woman who transforms from waiting and yearning to moving on and letting go.

In The Actress By Jim Gordon (Norwalk) a young actresses’ doubts turn to thoughts of a brighter future when an elderly lady tells of her experience with Lawrence Olivier in the backseat of a stagecoach. Featuring Marca Leigh (Stratford), Florence Phillips (Greenwich), and Allan Zeller (Milford).

A quiet ride in the country is anything but, in Boston resident Jack Rushton’s White Walls featuring Stephanie Hazard (New Canaan) and James Feuer (Greenwich.)

In Shooting Practice, by playwright Elizabeth Keyser of Fairfield, a father teaches his children the rules about guns. But a daughter learns that righteousness rules, and that’s not always right. Featuring Allan Zeller and Kimberly Squires (Milford) and directed by Damian Long (Fairfield).

With Prom Night Megan Smith-Harris (Wilton) recounts the unanticipated disasters and unexpected pleasures of attending her first high school prom.

Stamford resident Fran Dorf’s Baboon Story details the first-date from hell. Directed by Megan Smith-Harris.

In The Man Upstairs by Vivian Sorvall, Jo Anne Parady plays Fairfield County matron, disoriented by memory problems and air travel, arrives at her Florida condominium accompanied by an airport driver played by Allan Zeller.  He's also a self-styled preacher, out to take advantage. The play also features Larry Greeley (Wilton) and is directed by Damian Long.   

Pins For Sale, by Sari Bodi (Westport) features Carolyn Marble (Ridgefield) as a former resident of a wealthy Connecticut town who has fallen on hard times. She tries to regain her place in the town's social strata by spinning her tale of hardship into gold. Or she'll take checks. Also featuring Marca Leigh and directed by Carole Schweide (Westport).
