Oyster Festival Announces CT Native as the 2016 Headliner

The Norwalk Seaport Association announced tonight that Sawyer Frederick, winner of NBC’s Emmy Award®-winning The Voice competition in 2015, will be the headline entertainment on Saturday during the 2016 Norwalk Seaport Association Oyster Festival. This year’s Oyster Festival will be held Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11, 2016.  First County Bank will be presenting sponsor of the Festival for the sixth consecutive year.

Sawyer Fredericks, a Newtown, CT native, wowed audiences of The Voice with his soulful, contemporary folk sound.  As part of “Team Pharrell,” he emerged as the youngest victor in the show’s history at just 16-years-old. Moreover, he made Voice history, becoming the first artist to land 14 songs in the iTunes Overall Top 200 Songs Chart in one week. All in all, his digital sales exceeded 1 million cumulative singles, making him one of the show’s most successful artists ever.

“The  NSA is thrilled to have the 2015 Voice winner at this year’s festival,” says Oyster Festival Chairman Mike Reilly.  “In addition to Sawyer Frederick, this will be a music-filled weekend with many regional and local acts on multiple stages.”

The weekend promises to be fun for the whole family with a host of activities and entertainment throughout the weekend.  Back by popular demand for the third year, the Nerveless Nocks Thrill Show will perform their motorcycle high wire acts and other daredevil stunts (nervelessnocks.com).  Also returning is the always-popular Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show (lumberjackent.com).  Family-friendly fun will be available at the Kids Cove with rides, games and other child-centered live entertainment.  Other attractions include a Craft Beer tent with more than 40 beers and the expansive Arts & Crafts Pavilion with more than 100 artisans and crafters. Plus, an international food court, oyster slurping contest, and much more.

The Norwalk Seaport Association was founded in 1978 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, education and public awareness of Norwalk’s maritime environment and heritage.  The Seaport Association and its volunteers are solely responsible for organizing and financing the Oyster Festival.  In addition to the Oyster Festival, the Norwalk Seaport Association owns Sheffield Lighthouse and its volunteers maintain the lighthouse and grounds as a museum and nature preserve.  The organization also offers harbor cruises, special events, maritime education programs and habitat restoration projects with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  For more information, visit seaport.org. or call (203) 838-9444.
