Kayaking the Norwalk Islands at LL Bean at the Danbury Fair Mall

David Park, long time East Norwalk resident and author of “Kayaking in and around the Norwalk Islands” will be at LL Bean at the Danbury Fair Mall, 7 Backus Ave, on Wednesday August 17 at 7:30 pm to discuss kayaking the Norwalk area, including Westport and Darien.

The detailed presentation is free and will include plenty of pictures, a nautical chart of the area and tips on how to make your kayak trip enjoyable and safe. The Norwalk Islands are considered the jewel of Norwalk and has become a destination of out-of-area kayakers as well as plenty of local residents who have taken up the sport. The biggest draw to the area is the number of public access points, plus several of the islands are owned by the towns of Norwalk and Westport and are open to the public for activities such as camping and day trips.

The Norwalk Islands are home to the Sheffield Island historic lighthouse, Greens Ledge and Peck Ledge lighthouses and several of the islands belong to the Stewart B. McKinney Wildlife Refuge. The islands stretch approx. four nautical miles from west to east into Westport and sit about one mile offshore. There are also plenty of scenic coastal areas and rivers in the area to kayak. “Kayaking in and around the Norwalk Islands” is on facebook.
