New Canaan Library Presents New Art Exhibition: "Liana Moonie, A Retrospective"

Liana Moonie's vibrant, color saturated abstract paintings might bring to mind Rothko's fields of color, but it is the pronounced infusion of joy that makes these works so distinctively Liana Moonie.  Her many periods of work and diverse influences are beautifully evident in "Liana Moonie, A Retrospective."  The exhibition opens atNew Canaan Library's H. Pelham Curtis Gallery on Thursday, August 25 and runs through Sunday, October 9, 2016.  An opening reception will be held on Thursday, September 8 from 6 -8 p.m. in the Curtis Gallery; all are welcome to attend.

The radiant quality that shines through Moonie's paintings flows from her spiritual and positive perspective on life. Born in Italy and nurtured in art from an early age, Moonie arrived in the U.S. after World War II and began her art studies under Robert Brackman, Edgar Whitney and William Maxwell. Though favoring abstract and semi abstract painting, Moonie's work also includes watercolors, pastels, etchings, woodcuts and monoprints, among other mediums. Nature and the ever-shifting beauty of natural surroundings figure heavily in Moonie's art.
