Silvermine School of Art Open Studios and Pop-up Faculty Exhibition

On Saturday, September 10, from 1-4 pm, Silvermine School of Art will host a free Open Studios event accompanied by a pop-up Faculty Exhibition. Children and adults can participate in hands-on activities, watch demonstrations in a wide range of artistic disciplines, view an exhibit of new faculty work, or walk Silvermine’s five acres with its workshops, studios, waterfall, and pond. The Open Studios event allows prospective students of all ages to meet the faculty members who have made Silvermine School of Art Moffly Media’s winner in the Best Art Classes category for the fifth year in a row. The one-day faculty exhibition will take place in the Silvermine Galleries, which won Moffly’s “Best of the Gold Coast” accolade for the sixth consecutive year.

“We’re planning an enjoyable day for all ages,” said Anne Connell, Director of the Silvermine School of Art, “and the special exhibition will introduce students to the many disciplines and styles at the School of Art.”

The Silvermine School of Art, founded in 1924, has consistently drawn faculty members who are known locally, regionally, or nationally for mastery of their arts. The current faculty, many of whom are Silvermine Guild members, teach a wide array of approaches to painting, drawing, ceramics, photography, sculpture, mixed media, and printmaking. Master craftsmen in jewelry, silversmithing, and metalwork are an integral part of the distinguished Silvermine faculty. The popular woodworking classes at the new Bill Sessions Woodworking Center round out the offerings.

Classes begin September 19 and run through December 18. Faculty members will be on hand to talk with prospective students, and students can register for classes, workshops, and mini-courses during the Open Studios on September 10.  Private tutorials, team building, and group workshops are also offered.  The variety of options at the Silvermine School of Art make it easy to fit an art class into a busy schedule.

New courses this September include Kathie Miranda’s “Drawing with Silverpoint;” Marta Kot’s classes for home-schooled kids ages 8-14; Vladimir Mariano’s “3-D Printing and Design” for both adults and kids; and Jessica Hughes’ Junior Sculpture and Abstract Painting, a painting class for ages 10-14 that explores various media including recycled materials.

Registration for the fall semester is now open, and students can also register on the day of the Open Studios.  Visit silvermineart.org for more information.
