Poetry/Performance Art Competition for Teens

Do you love to write poetry? Would you like a unique opportunity to perform your poem? Then Wilton Library's Poetry in Motion is the program for you!

Poems are written on a specific theme and are paired with a performance art of your choice--music, dance, photography. The theme is “But Wait, There’s More!” There's more to me! There's more to say, see or do! There's more to life! There's more fun to come! There's more beyond high school! There's more outside of Wilton!

The program includes editing workshops, performance workshops and rehearsals to prepare for two performances. The poetry editing workshops are run by Heather Candles an English teacher at Middlebrook School. Nancy Ponturo is the program director.

All participants attend a performance workshop with National Poetry Slam champion and renowned lecturer, literary performer and educator, Regie Gibson. You can learn more about Regie Gibson at regiegibson.com.

Approximately 35 poems are chosen to be performed. If you do not like to perform but like to write poetry, you can submit your poem and choose to have someone else perform it. If you are not a poet but like to perform, you can sign up to perform someone else's poem.

The program is for students in grade 7-12. Performances are March 24 & 25, 2017.

Submissions: Email your poem to teenpoetry@wiltonlibrary.org by 10/31/16
