Puttin' On the Dog Festival in Greenwich TODAY

American Humane Association’s Red Star® Rescue Unit to Attend

Puttin’ On The Dog Festival

Dedicated Emergency Team to Demonstrate Capabilities

When a hurricane strikes or an unexpected disaster occurs, pets often are abandoned or left to fend for themselves because of a lack of adequate shelter facilities.  It is a heart-wrenching situation for owners and their beloved four-legged family members to have to endure separation and an uncertain reunion.

American Humane Association has mobilized its specialized fleet of emergency response vehicles to rescue and help traumatized animals during disasters or cruelty by providing field rescue, investigative support, critical shelter, comfort, veterinary care and food.  Their new 50-foot vehicle and some of their national team will be at Adopt-A-Dog’s Puttin’ On The Dog Festival in Greenwich, Connecticut, on Sunday, September 21st.  Festival attendees will have the opportunity to tour the unit, meet the specially trained Red Star responders and learn more about the critical services available on this vehicle that is stationed in the Northeast to provide help and support to animals in a crisis.

“We are so fortunate to have the American Humane Association’s wonderful new rescue unit

with us at this year’s Puttin’ On The Dog Festival,” said Adopt-A-Dog president Allyson Halm.  “The vehicle will aid animals who are at risk due to a weather event such as Hurricane Sandy or some other emergency, and it will give owners reassurance knowing their pets are being taken care of until they all can be united.”

The Puttin’ On The Dog Festival annually draws some 7,000 people and their dogs to Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Greenwich for a day of activities, contests, demonstrations, exhibits, food, music and family fun.  Gates open at 10:00 a.m. and the event closes at 4:30 p.m. after the traditional dog costume contest. Tickets are available at the gate or in advance online at www.adoptadog.org.
