YOUNG SHOOTS: Digital Photography Competition Deadline Extended!

The Westport Arts Center (WAC) and the Westport Farmers' Market (WFM) are excited to sponsor Young Shoots, a student digital photography competition for ages 8-18. The competition is designed to enable students to demonstrate their creativity and originality through the digital photography medium and to showcase the local color and vibrancy of the Westport Farmers' Market. Selected photographs of the competition will be exhibited at Sugar & Olives restaurant, with an opening reception on September 15.

PRIZES

  • New for first place winners: Lead a food photo shoot at a renowned Westport restaurant.  Winners will shoot and eat a great meal at either LeFarm, The Whelk or Kawa Ni!
  • Winners will have their work shown in gallery-like setting.
  • First and second place winners will receive a $50 cash prize.
  • Fan favorite winners will receive a membership to the Westport Arts Center and a Westport Farmers' Market t-shirt.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Eligibility:

  • All young photographers may submit.
  • Students will be juried in 3 separate age groups: ages 8 -10, 11-14, and 15 - 18.


Deadline:

  • August 15th


Artwork Requirements:

  • Students may submit up to 2 photographs.
  • All photographs must be taken at the Westport Farmers' Market, held Thursdays, 10am - 2pm, at 50 Imperial Ave in Westport.
  • Images should be 1MB - 4 MB and saved as .jpg and labeled lastname_firstname_title.jpg
  • Edits and stylistic enhancements are permissible.
  • Selected artists must print and frame their work to be displayed at the September 15 reception.


Entry Fee & Payment:

  • The Photography Competition is free.


ABOUT THE JURORS

  • Stephanie Webster is the Editor in Chief for CTbites.com. She started her career as a photo editor at a travel magazine, and recently published the book, Fairfield County Chef's Table. 
  • Helen Klisser During is Westport Arts Center's Artistic Director, and also is an independent curator, art advisor, and award-winning photojournalist.
  • Eileen Sawyer is a photographer and member of the Westport Farmers' Market Board of Directors.


NOTIFICATIONS

  • WAC will notify all students by email on August 15. No phone calls, please.
  • Finalists' names will be posted on www.westportartscenter.org.
  • 1st, 2nd, and Fan Favorite winners will be announced at the Opening Reception at Sugar & Olives restaurant on September 15.
