Datto, Inc. to be honored by the Carver Foundation of Norwalk Austin McChord, CEO, to receive the Community Builder award for Datto, Inc.

Datto, Inc. is the Carver Foundation of Norwalk’s Community Builder Honoree to be awarded on Friday, April 28, 2017, at the Child of America gala at Wee Burn Country Club in Darien. Datto will be a sponsor of the annual event, and Austin McChord will receive the award on behalf of the company he founded and established in Norwalk.

“We are deeply grateful for Datto’s investment in Carver students and for inspiring them to pursue careers in STEM-related industries. We are excited about Datto’s continuing commitment to be involved with Carver on many levels in the future,” said Novelette Peterkin, Carver’s Executive Director.

“I was born in Norwalk and Datto is committed to the well-being of our community,” said Mr. McChord. “Carver students have visited our headquarters and I hope some of them will one day work for Datto.”

Past Community Builder award recipients include Pitney Bowes, Affinion Group, GE, Stew Leonard’s, Norwalk Hospital, Bank of America, Deloitte, Pepperidge Farm, and Ring’s End.

“Community leaders such as Datto are beacons of hope and excellence to our youth and to the community in which they live and thrive. The families and students of Norwalk are honored by Datto’s support of their academic careers and dreams for the future,” said Ms. Peterkin.

 

Austin McChord is the chief innovator and driving force behind Datto. Datto made the coveted Inc. 500 for three consecutive years, in 2012, 2013 and 2014. The company has also received numerous industry awards, for company growth, product excellence and technical support.

Marcus Mabry, Director, Mobile News Programming, CNN Digital Worldwide, is this year’s Child of America Honoree. Since 2002, past honorees had included Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Roger Wilkins; Geoffrey Canada, the then-President and CEO of the Harlem Children’s Zone; Cynthia Thompson, when she was National Chair of The Girl Scouts Of America; and Helene Gayle, when she served as CEO of CARE.

Carver expects to welcome some 300 guests representing Lower Fairfield County at the annual Child of America gala on Friday evening, April 28, 2017, at the Wee Burn Country Club in Darien, CT.

About the Carver Foundation of Norwalk

Carver is the largest provider of after-school programs for middle and high school students in Norwalk.  Carver’s college-prep Youth Development Program is conducted in the Carver Community Center, in Norwalk’s four middle and two comprehensive high schools, and in Side by Side Charter School. Programming led by certified teachers within each participating school compliments the school day curriculum with project-based and personalized learning. We provide free transportation.  Carver conducts a K-5 after school program at the Carver Community Center called CASPER. Carver summer learning programs include Summer Enrichment (5- to 13-year-old students at two sites); Freshman Summer Success Academies for graduated 8th-grade students transitioning into 9th grade at Norwalk and Brien McMahon High Schools; and summer learning experience for 5th-grade students transitioning into middle school. Carver Community programming includes college scholarships, winning basketball teams, international learning opportunities, parent leadership, health and wellness programming, spring and fall college tours, food drives, community holiday events and more for the benefit of Carver students and the Norwalk community. Since 2005, 100 percent of Carver’s seniors have graduated on time and nearly 100% of our graduates go on to college.
