New Canaan Historical Society Announces New Executive Director

The Board of Governors of the New Canaan Historical Society is pleased to announce the selection of Nancy Geary as its new executive director, effective April 2, 2017.  Ms. Geary fills the position created by Janet Lindstom’s retirement, announced last November, a position she held for thirty-four years.  The selection was made after an extensive search and selection process. 

“We are very pleased to announce this appointment,” said Mark Markiewicz, President of the New Canaan Historical Society. “Nancy will bring leadership and creativity to the Society’s exhibitions and programming, as well as a deep sense of commitment to the organization.  She has served numerous nonprofits in our area, is an accomplished attorney and has a track record of intellect, balance and reliability. With Nancy at the helm, we look forward to the continuity of celebrating New Canaan's remarkable heritage.”

Geary’s resume includes nearly 20 years of experience handling a range of legal matters on behalf of corporations, partnerships, charitable organizations and individuals.  As an Assistant Attorney General, Geary briefed and argued appeals in the Supreme Judicial Court and Massachusetts Court of Appeals.  She is the author of four novels, and a three-time recipient of the Westchester Library Association’s Washington Irving Book Selection Award for adult fiction.  Locally, Geary has served as Board Member for Horizons, Warden for St. Francis Episcopal Church, and has served on multiple committees for King School and New Canaan Country School.  Geary graduated from Spence School in New York City, Brown University and Harvard Law School.
