Winners Announced at Rowayton Arts Center

Photo #6: Best in Show, "Straphanger" by Robert Sachs

Winners announced at the Rowayton Arts Center. “Straphanger,” a color photograph of an upside down subway rider by Robert Sachs wins Best in Show in the Rowayton Arts Center’s “Photography and Sculpture” exhibit. Kevin Johnson, the judge, said of Sachs’ work, “The photograph is alive on so many levels.”  Adding, “The straphanger - yes, but it is also a masterful group portrait encompassing an entire subway train.”   The exhibit’s opening reception is Sunday, September 11, (4 - 6pm) and is free and open to the public. Be sure to also see RAC’s exhibit, “Ageless Art” and the memorial tribute to 9/11. The exhibit will be up until September 25.  The other award winners are:

Black and White Photography: 1st place: “Disney” by Danielle Goldstein    2nd place: “Semper Paratus” by Kirsti Holtan 3rd place: “Monhegan Island, Maine” by Emily Kelting  Honorable Mention: “Ghost Horse” by Julie Frank

Color Photography: 1st place: “Pantry Pests” by Ben Larabee   2nd place: “Ghosting to the Finish” by Joanna Bridges  3rd place: “Tourist Invasion, Havana” by Jeanette Young Pertz   Honorable Mention: “Peace in the Valley: Lancaster County, PA” by Rick Pank

Sculpture: 1st place: “148 Ripples-Reef” by Chris Perry   2nd place: “Royal Orb #2” by Pat Atkin    3rd place: “Emerging” by Ginny Awn Honorable Mention: “From the Sea” by Susan Acker

For almost 60 years, the Rowayton Arts Center has been a cultural gem in the community. It is an exceptional gallery where regional artists may exhibit and sell their art as well as a wonderful venue for art workshops and classes. The Art School offers classes to children and adults at all levels. The RAC Gallery and Art School are located on the bank of the scenic Five Mile River in Rowayton, CT at 145 Rowayton Avenue.
