RVNA Presentation: Understanding Wandering in Dementia Patients

Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association (RVNA) is organizing an informative talk on Monday, July 6 on the subject of “Understanding Wandering in Dementia Patients” at the Darien Senior Center.

Barbara Newland, RVNA Director of Community Health & Wellness and Certified Dementia Practitioner, will be the speaker.  According to the Alzheimer’s Association, 6 in 10 people with dementia will wander.  A person with dementia may not remember his or her name or address, and can become disoriented in familiar places.  Newland will address who is at risk, warning signs for caregivers to look for, strategies to try that may reduce the chances of wandering, and how to create a plan in case a loved one becomes lost.  This event, which will take place on Monday, July 6, from 11:00 am to noon, is open to the public. Attendees should sign up by calling the Darien Senior Center at 203-656-7490. The Darien Senior Center is located at 2 Renshaw Road in Darien.
