The Yankee Doodle Garage, providing more than 400 municipal parking spaces in the Wall Street area of Norwalk, is getting an upgrade.
With the increase in activity in the Wall Street area due to new development and new businesses, the Parking Authority is increasing its service to the public as well as making improvements to the facility’s structure, security and appearance.
To better serve its parking customers in the Wall Street District, the Parking Authority will run a satellite customer service office at the Yankee Doodle Garage. The office will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00am – 5:00pm to assist the public with any questions or concerns.
To make the garage a safer environment and to extend the life of the facility, the elevators will be upgraded to bring them up to current code, safety standards, and ADA requirements. New electronic locks will be installed at the staircase door that is linked to the alarm system. Additionally, a new ADA-compliant front door will be added to the entrance of the garage. The projects will be completed by the end of November. Other safety enhancements include new LED lights that were replaced last fiscal year throughout the garage and in the two towers. “As a large city-owned asset, the Yankee Doodle Garage is an important parking resource, but it also serves as a ‘beacon’ in the growing Wall Street District that has architectural and wayfinding features,” says Parking Authority Chairman Dick Brescia. “With the expected increase in people coming in and out of the area, the Norwalk Parking Authority has been proactive in funding initiatives to make improvements to the garage, increase its presence in the area, and collaborate with the community.”
