Embrace the Mexican tradition of piñatas, brightly colored papier-mâché sculptures filled with goodies, at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum on Saturday, January 18.
Visitors will go south of the border with teaching artist Lucia Hierro to create their own piñatas, experiment with different techniques to decorate the paper sculptures, fill, and then playfully smash them.
From 10 am to 12 noon, children aged two to five are invited to play in the galleries, followed by storytime and art-making. From 1 to 3 pm, children aged six to ten are invited to engage in gallery games and hands-on art projects.
Each session will include snack time and although the workshops are geared to a specific age range, siblings and friends of all ages are welcome to participate. All children must be accompanied by a caregiver.
All exhibitions and programs are handicapped accessible. Free on-site parking. Regular Museum hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 12 noon to 5 pm. For more information call 203.438.4519 or visit aldrichart.org.
