IMAGES 2014 Photography Show Gala at Fairfield Museum

Fairfield Museum and History Center announces the winners of IMAGES 2014, the sixth annual juried photography show on view May 11 – June 22, 2014. Westport residents Bernard Perry, Annalisa Harding, Danielle Goldstein, Alexandria Donovan, David Kalman and Jana Ireijo, along with Sara Roche of Weston and student Morgan Macey, of Wilton were chosen from more than 900 entries submitted by Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts photographers.

IMAGES 2014, sponsored by First Niagara, Venu magazine, Southport Galleries, WSHU Public Radio, Cinch and Fairfield University, is a highly-regarded exhibition that celebrates the exceptional work of talented, regional photographers. The exhibit will kick off with a Gala Preview Party on Saturday, May 10 from 7-11 pm. Tickets are now available online at Fairfieldhistory.org.

This year's IMAGES categories include Landscape, Portrait, Architecture, Nature and Abstract as well as a new category, Iconic Fairfield, in honor of the 375th anniversary of the town of Fairfield. As part of the celebration, 18 photographs have been selected by the judges for a special exhibition opening mid May at First Niagara's Fairfield branches on the Post Road and Black Rock Turnpike.

IMAGES 2014 Professional/Serious Amateur category grand prize winner will receive a 10-day exhibition at the Southport Galleries. The Student Grand Prize winner will receive a professional portfolio review with internationally renowned photographer and exhibit judge, Philip Trager. Winners will be announced at the Preview Gala.

In addition to the juried show, IMAGES 2014 will also include a solo exhibition featuring world-renowned photographer David LaChapelle. Growing up in Fairfield, LaChapelle credits the Connecticut Public School system's art programs for fostering his artistic talents. His work, which often combines a unique hyper-realistic aesthetic while providing a profound social message, often draws inspiration from historical references and uses exaggerated scale and color pallets.

"We are extremely pleased to have the brilliant work of David LaChapelle on view at the Museum during our special 375th anniversary year," said Fairfield Museum Executive Director Michael Jehle.

At age 17, LaChapelle's career took off after working for Andy Warhol at Interview Magazine. He went on to master in a multitude of disciplines including fashion, commercial, advertising, film and fine art photography. His images have graced the covers and pages of Italian Vogue, French Vogue, Vanity Fair, GQ, Rolling Stone and i-D and his work has been featured in galleries and museums from New York to Paris to Tel Aviv.
