Film Screening at The Prospector with Frank and Heather Whaley to Benefit JRMS Theater Program

Frank and Heather Whaley will host a screening of Frank’s film, Like Sunday, Like Rain, at the Prospector Theater in Ridgefield on Wednesday, April 29th from 7-9pm, to raise funds for the John Read Middle School theater program. The screening of Like Sunday, Like Rain will be followed by an intimate Q&A with Frank Whaley, who will discuss his film and his career.

Frank Whaley is best known for his work as an actor, having appeared in over seventy five films, such as Pulp Fiction, School of Rock, Field of Dreams, and Swimming With Sharks. Like Sunday, Like Rain marks his fourth feature film as writer/director.

The film tells the story of Reggie, a twelve-year-old cello prodigy who resides in a mansion on the Upper West Side with his absentee mother, played by Debra Messing (Will and Grace, The Mysteries of Laura). Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl, Country Strong) plays Eleanor, a suddenly unemployed waitress, who breaks up with her boyfriend, played by Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day), and finds herself employed as Reggie’s nanny for the summer. Eleanor and Reggie form a friendship that transforms both of their lives. It is a story of love and music, and how both can transcend loneliness.

“Arts programs in our schools are vital in so many ways to our children,” says Frank. “In my personal experience, and for many of those I’ve known, the lessons learned through the arts and theater in particular, can be life-changing.” The Whaleys were very impressed with the quality of the productions they saw at John Read. Heather said, “Knowing the work that goes into creating theater, I was astounded that Diana Canova and Kathy Weiss could create original musicals, and were able to pull off rich and dynamic productions with such limited resources. We wanted to do something to support what we see as an enormous asset to our children and our community.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit the John Read Middle School theater program, which is funded entirely by donation. Tickets for the one-night-only screening can be purchased for $25 at www.prospectortheater.org/prospector-events.
