Wine & Beautiful Butterflies in June 4 Fundraiser to Benefit The Maritime Aquarium

Flitter among exotic tropical butterflies while savoring and favoring fine wines during a fun evening fund-raiser on Thurs., June 4 to benefit The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk.

Gather from 6 to 8 p.m. within the Aquarium’s new outdoor summer exhibit, “Flutter Zone,” for “Flutter & Flights.” Guests can sample wines from around the world during the event, which is supported by Fairway Wine & Spirits. Wine orders will be taken.

Aquarium educators will be on hand to introduce guests to the varieties of beautiful butterflies from Asia, South American and Africa, all fluttering about. Some of the butterflies may even land on guests! “Flutter Zone” also includes a fascinating section featuring the chrysalises whose metamorphoses will keep the exhibit stocked with flittering butterflies throughout the summer.

Plus, enjoy small bites from local restaurants, and meet Chocopolgies’ Fritz Knipschildt.

“ ‘Flutter & Flights’ is a fun evening out, in a unique setting, and a unique way to support the Aquarium as well as local businesses that support the Aquarium,” said Sam Ross, the Aquarium’s Director of Development.

Presenting sponsor is Darien Rowayton Bank.

“Darien Rowayton Bank is proud to support The Maritime Aquarium’s ‘Flutter & Flights’ event,” said Robert Kettenmann, President and Chief Operating Officer of Darien Rowayton Bank. “We are pleased to support organizations that enhance the quality of life in the communities that we serve.”

Tickets for “Flutter & Flights” are $35 ($30 for Aquarium members), with proceeds going to The Maritime Aquarium. Purchase tickets in advance online – at www.maritimeaquarium.org – to be entered for the chance to win a gift basket.

Tickets also will be available at the door, or in advance by calling (203) 852-0700, ext. 2206.

The Maritime Aquarium is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to educate visitors about – and to create stewards for – Long Island Sound. It accomplishes this by allowing visitors to get close to more than 250 species native to the Sound and its watershed, including sharks, seals, sea turtles, river otters, jellyfish and other animals. One of the top places for family fun in Connecticut, the Aquarium also features hands-on educational programs and displays, public study cruises out onto the Sound, and Connecticut's largest IMAX® movie theater, with a screen that's six stories high.
