Jazz Vespers at Christ Church October 25th

Christ Church, the Episcopal church at the corner of Cross Highway and Route 58, will once again host the highly popular Jazz Vespers service on Sunday, October 25th at 7 pm.  Open to the public and free of charge, this non-traditional service will feature the acclaimed vocalist and bassist Nicki Parrott, whose sultry contralto and Australian diction will charm and delight all - even those who may not consider themselves jazz fans.  Come hear songs by Ray Noble, Irving Berlin, and Charlie Chaplin! In keeping with the evening’s theme “Tell Me What To Do”, the featured songs strike a strong imperative note:  Say it Isn’t So, Smile, Besame Mucho, Accentuate the Positive, and more.  “Nicki Parrott could make anyone love jazz” mused one reviewer – we are sure you will love the performance, too.

Musical performances will be interspersed with poetry and other readings that mirror the playful yet assertive theme of the evening.

Martha Meyer, Music Minister at Christ Church, will be on keyboard, joined by Tom Melito, a veteran of New York jazz clubs, on drums.

Jazz Vespers will be followed by a reception at 8 pm in the parish hall, where, in honor of “Creativity Sunday”, the visual artistic talents of the congregation will be on view for all to enjoy.
