Join us Saturday, February 13th, 8:00 pm, at Ridgefield High School’s Anne S. Richardson Auditorium for REDEMPTION THROUGH LOVE, as guest conductor Petko Dimitrov and the RSO perform a program of three masterpieces with the immortal theme of love.
Love that can redeem, love that can save! In Richard Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman Overture we meet the “Dutchman,” a seafarer cursed to sail the high seas for all eternity… until he meets his beloved Senta! Her selfless love redeems the “Dutchman” from his curse and saves his immortal soul. Wagner’s overture is full of drama and beauty, a perfect opening to a perfect concert!
Robert and Clara Schumann’s real-life love story is one for the ages. A starving artist, courtship against parental wishes, eloping young lovers, a lifelong musical partnership ending in composer Robert being nursed and supported by his spouse in sickness until a tragic early death. Schumann’s Second Symphony is a little-known and performed masterpiece, a musical gem just waiting to be discovered by audiences!
