Violinist Yevgeny Kutik to play Bruch G Minor Violin Concerto at Ridgefield Symphony opening concert

Violinist Yevgeny Kutik will play the Bruch G Minor Violin Concerto at the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra's opening concert on Oct. 1 at 8:00 PM.

Kutik made his first appearance with a major orchestra in 2003 with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops as the First Prize recipient of the Boston Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Competition.  He has played with orchestras throughout the world, and his 2014 album debuted as number five on the Billboard Classical chart.

All violinists aspire to play the Big Five concertos—four German and one Russian—by Beethoven, Brahms, Bruch, Mendelssohn, and Tchaikovsky.  Joseph Joachim, who premiered the Bruch and Brahms concertos, said, "The Bruch is the richest and most seductive of the four German concertos."  The finale gypsy melody is similar to and probably influenced Brahms' last movement.

The program also includes Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 1, Dvorak's New World Symphony, and a commissioned piece Sphere of Influence by Chris Brubeck in which the orchestra is joined by the Performing Arts Group of SPHERE (Special People's Housing, Education, Recreation, and Employment).  The concert will be conducted by Barbara Yahr. There will be a pre-concert talk by Maestro Yahr at 7:00 PM in the auditorium prior to the concert.

The concert is sponsored by Fairfield County Bank.
