RVNA Hosts Tools of Communication across Generations on September 27

On Wednesday evening, September 27, RVNA is hosting a panel discussion, Tools of Communication across Generations, designed to offer participants a fresh perspective on caring for family and friends in need.

“So often, the act of caregiving for a loved one can become a confusing and conflicted time for the caregiver,” explains RVNA’s Director of Community Wellness, Barbara Newland, CDP, CAPS, one of the program panelists. “Despite best intentions, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the work, time and emotions involved in the situation. This program offers strategies and techniques for keeping the caregiving experience positive and gratifying, so you can treasure the time and relationship you have.”

In addition to Newland, the program panel will include Dr. David Davis, Ridgefield chiropractor and author of the book Support the Caregiver and Kathie Nitz, life coach and speaker and the creator of Caring Cards

Dr. Davis will share strategies from his book—written from personal experience—for approaching the caregiving experience as an opportunity for growth, possibility and healing. Kathie Nitz, who developed Caring Cards to help generations explore memories, personal histories and life stories together, will contribute her expertise and insights in embracing the caregiving experience. And RVNA’s Barbara Newland will share communication techniques that encourage healthy and constructive dialogues between caregivers and care recipients.

“Many of us become “caregivers” without even realizing it or without defining ourselves as such,” says Newland. “It’s often the natural course of life. This program aims to recognize and cherish the role and share strategies and techniques so that the caregiving experience is satisfying and meaningful for all involved.”

Tools of Communication across Generations will take place at RVNA, 27 Governor Street in Ridgefield on Wednesday September 27 from 6:30pm – 8:00pm.  This event is free and open to the public.
