Bestselling Author and Integrative Dietitian Esther Blum to Speak at Mark Twain Library

The holiday season may be in the rear view mirror, but as many of us take a look in the full-length mirror we’re feeling perhaps less than thrilled with what we see. A little egg nog here, a plate of Santa’s cookies there, toss in some subconscious stress eating and it’s no wonder losing weight is top of mind for many people as we head into the New Year. But why is it so hard to do?

Integrative dietitian and bestselling author Esther Blum has the answers, and she will offer her tips and advice during an informal talk on January 18th at 7:30pm at the Mark Twain Library. During the talk, she will share excerpts from her latest e-book, Five Reasons Why You’re Not Losing Weight.

The book is an honest look at the main reasons most people struggle to lose weight, and offers practical strategies for combating common diet pitfalls. In straight-talking style, Ms. Blum covers topics such as liver malfunctioning; food sensitivities; excess stress in our daily lives; sleep deprivation; and exercise ruts -- all of which can lead to overweight and illness.

Ms. Blum acknowledges there is no one-size-fits-all approach to nutrition. “It varies tremendously,” she explains.  “Some people want to go on a faster track than others. If someone continues to eat foods they’re sensitive to or triggering their genes to express illness it will be harder for them to lose weight or heal.” But she offers hope to many who think they will never understand why they can’t drop that stubborn five or ten pounds, or who suffer from conditions like migraines.

“I like knowing I can reverse someone’s chronic illness,” Ms. Blum says. “Someone who has been told they have an autoimmune condition can go into complete remission within six months just by following my diet and supplement advice.”

During her talk, she will encourage participants to share their stories, and she promises each audience member will walk away with skills and practices they’ll be able to apply at their very next meal.

Between writing bestselling books such as Cavewomen Don’t Get Fat and Eat, Drink, and Be Gorgeous and making media appearances, Ms. Blum maintains a busy private practice in Connecticut where she prescribes whole food diet therapy and supplement protocols to heal and reverse chronic illness. She is also the owner of Esther Blum, LLC—a concierge wellness consulting firm that cultivates and curates boutique, one-of-a-kind, experiential events for both small and large companies.
