Quench Your Thirst with New Craft Cocktails at Barcelona

Norwalk, CT – Gretchen Thomas, Wine & Spirits Director of Barcelona, has created three new cocktails to help guests beat the heat. Using fresh herbs and unique ingredients, Barcelona bartenders are shaking up a few unique offerings to cool you off this summer.

Bees Wings: A modern take of the classic Bees Knees cocktail from the Prohibition era, the Barcelona version is a blend of Bar Hill Gin, Yellow Chartreuse, agave nectar, orange blossom water, lemon juice and pasteurized egg whites. Bar Hill Gin, a small batch gin made by Todd Hardie in Vermont, is the inspiration for this cocktail. A honey bee farmer for 50 years, he also farms elderberries, corn, barley and rye—all of which play a role in his gin. This cocktail is given an international twist with the inclusion of agave nectar from Mexico and the eponymous French liqueur, Chartreuse.

Whiskey Root: Responding to guests' requests to add another whiskey-based cocktail to the menu, the Whiskey Root is made with Byrrh Quinquina, fresh ginger, basil leaves, lemon juice, and Buffalo Trace Bourbon. Byrrh Quinquina is an interesting fortified wine that is similar in flavor to angostura bitters with a base of cinchona bark as the main flavoring ingredient. This adds the right amount of spicy bitter undertones to the drink. The "root" in the name comes from using ginger and in combination with this bitter aperitif wine.

Tarragona: Named after the Catalan city, Tarragona, this cocktail is made with a refreshing blend of house-made tarragon syrup, lemon juice, Rhum JM Blanc, and Blume Marillen Apricot Eau-de-Vie. Combined with simple syrup, the tarragon is blended to create a bright green syrup that holds its color, potency and aroma. Combining the Rhum JM Blanc with a high quality summer fruit liqueur creates a crisp and refreshing cocktail perfect for the summer.
