RVNA hosts Mental Health First Aid Training Course

Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association (RVNA) is hosting a Mental Health First Aid Training course facilitated by Ability Beyond residential & clinical services manager, Michelle Weinstein, M.S, BC-HSP on Tuesday, October 25 and Wednesday, October 26 from 9:00am - 1:00pm at the RVNA Center for Exceptional Care.

The stigma surrounding mental illness often prevents people from seeking help or even acknowledging that they need help. And if they do want help, they really don’t know where to turn. Perhaps you are concerned about the mental health of a friend, have wondered how to approach someone with depression, or worried about your co-worker who is struggling with anxiety? This 8-hour evidence-based training course is designed to give members of the community key skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.

Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In the Mental Health First Aid course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help. Participants will receive certification, which can be renewed every three years.

This course will take place on Tuesday, October 25 and Wednesday, October 26 from 9:00am - 1:00pm at the RVNA Center for Exceptional Care. The fee is $75 per person. Please RSVP to 203-438-5555. RVNA is located at 27 Governor Street, Ridgefield.
