No Fertility Snowdays: RMACT Team Cares for Patients Despite the Storm

RMACT Team Cares For Their Patients Despite the Storm

Connecticut is digging out after a major winter storm that stopped many in their tracks. In the fertility world, there are no snow days.

"If a delay in opening or a closing is going to occur, that means planning. Major planning.  IVF (in vitro fertilization) retrievals can't be put off or postponed. The retrievals need to be done at certain times and that timing is crucial to ensure the highest chances of success- a pregnancy for each of our patients," explains Lisa Rosenthal, RMACT Patient Advocate and Blog Editor-in-Chief.

Here's an inside look as to how RMACT managed the storm.

The RMACT team came into the office the night before the storm and stayed there throughout the evening so they could be there in the morning. "One of our team members shared an email that really spoke to how our team works- as a family," says Rosenthal.

Rosenthal shared the following email with us written to RMACT team members who braved the storm, putting patients first. The email came from RMACT CEO, Robin Mangieri.

All,

Tonight I ran into the little market in my town to grab some essentials to weather the storm (eggs, guacamole, cookies and Diet Coke are the essentials in our house). I ran into one of the moms I know from around town, who has two kids. I don't know this woman very well but since it was so busy we were chatting for a while on line at the checkout counter. She was saying how crazy her day was and asked me how my day was going. I told her I spent most of my day working on preparing for the storm – making arrangements for staff, rescheduling patients, talking through decisions about which office to open and when, etc. She asked what I did in my job and I told her.  I continued to say how we had all of you staying overnight for 1-2 nights so we can be there for our patients who needed to have their IVF retrievals done, storm or no storm. She was incredulous She couldn't believe people would take those kinds of risk and take the time out of their lives to be there for our fertility patients. She was in awe and confided in me that she had gone through IVF to conceive her second child. She actually welled up with tears thinking about the sacrifice of "those incredible people" who were willing to give of themselves in this way. So, incredible people - thank you for staying and working and taking such excellent care of our patients. I am sure there will be sleepless nights for many of our patients tonight and seeing you all there will certainly be a welcome sight in the morning.

I hope you have a restful night. We stocked the kitchen for you- so rest, eat up and be careful.

And thank you again for being so special.

Robin
