The National Weather Service is predicting bitter cold temperatures for the beginning and end of week (January 1-6) with moderate potential for light accumulating snowfall Wednesday night into Thursday night. Prepare for another shot of arctic air on Friday, January 5.

A bitterly cold airmass will remain over the area into Tuesday. Both frostbite and hypothermia are concerns with prolonged exposure. Particular care will be needed for the homeless and elderly populations.
Today, Monday, January 1
- A Wind Chill Advisory continues for Interior Portions of Northeastern NJ, Lower Hudson Valley, and Southern Connecticut this morning for wind chills as low as -10 to -20 degrees F.
- Meanwhile wind chills will run as low as -5 to -10 degrees F for the NYC/NJ metro, and as low as -5 to -15 degrees F for the remainder of the area this morning
- Wind chills will struggle to get above zero this afternoon .
- Marine: Low water conditions expected during times of low tide, making navigation hazardous.
Tonight into Tuesday morning:
- Wind chills will likely fall as low as 0 to -10 degrees F across the area.
Outlook:
- Potential for a light accumulating snowfall Wednesday night into Thursday night is increasing. Eventual impacts will depend on the track of an intense low pressure system which remain uncertain, however there currently is a low chance for at least 6 inches of snow accumulation.
- Another shot of arctic air for Friday into the weekend. This has potential to be the coldest airmass of the season, with widespread windchills of -10 to -20 degrees early Friday and Saturday morning.
