Senator McLachlan Visits St. Mary School

State Senator Michael McLachlan paid a special visit to St. Mary School on April 23 to congratulate the winners of the 7th Annual Connecticut Women's History Month Essay Contest.  6th grader, Judy Apotheker, placed 1st, and Grace Garvey, also in 6th grade, was the Runner-Up.  Both girls were awarded an Official Citation from the State of Connecticut General Assembly, as well as a monetary prize from Union Savings Bank.  Judy wrote her essay on Catherine Beecher, an influential leader in the campaign for equal educational opportunities for women.  Grace wrote about Ella Grasso, the first woman to be elected governor in her own right in the United States.  Senator McLachlan spent some time with the 6th grade class, asking and answering questions.
